In the Netherlands, personal income tax is divided into three "boxes." Box 1, which applies to income from work and home ownership, is taxed progressively, with rates for 2024 set at 9.32% for income up to €38,098, 36.97% from €38,098 to €75,518, and 49.50% above €75,518.
For income up to €38,098 (the first bracket), a total of 36.97% is deducted, with 9.32% going to income tax and 27.65% allocated to national insurance contributions, which fund pensions, survivor benefits, and long-term care.
