The scoring system doesn't apply if you are a Turkish national or a long-term EU resident in another EU country. It's also a different process if you plan to work in Dutch culture under the OCW.

In addition to the points-based system, you must fulfil other key requirements:

• You must have all permits and qualifications needed for operating in that industry.

• If you're moving as a freelancer, you must already have at least one commission based in the Netherlands.
• If you're planning to work in healthcare, you must be BIG-registered.

Step #3 - Await approval

• Awaiting approval: The IND will always make a decision within 90 days (three months), and this is typically the time frame you'll hear back in. However, the decision can be extended up to six months, depending on whether the RVO or OCW needs to be involved in the decision-making process.

You can follow the status of your application via the My IND portal.

• Receive decision: Often, within 90 days, you'll receive the decision via letter. Upon approval, you'll receive a residence permit allowing you to start work in the Netherlands.

• Collect your permit: You'll be able to collect your residence permit at any IND desk in the country, but you'll need to make an appointment to pick it up. You can book an appointment here.

• Register in the BRP: Register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) in your municipality of residence. You will need a copy of your birth certificate for this, as well as it being translated into Dutch.
• TB test: If you are from a country requiring it, undergo a tuberculosis test within three months of arrival unless you match a case in the list of exceptions.
