What is the average salary in Cyprus?

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus (ΥΣΤΑΤ), the average gross monthly salary in Cyprus was €2,509 in the first quarter of 2025. That’s up 5.4% from €2,382 in the same period last year, and also higher than the 2023 average of €2,363.

Based on our tax calculator, we can estimate that a net monthly salary in Cyprus is around €2,100. If you suspect this is a pretty good arrangement for workers, you're correct. Taxes in Cyprus are not as stringent as in other EU nations. In Belgium, for example, a similar gross monthly income would leave a worker with around €1,800 when converted to a net salary.

Depending on their employer, some employees may also get a 13th-month salary as a year-end bonus. This means a yearly gross income of around €30,108 if you get 12 salaries, or €32,617 if you get 13. After taxes, that’s about €25,229 or €26,962 per year.

Compared to the rest of Europe, Cyprus is a bit below the EU average, which is €3,155 per month in 2025.

What is the average salary in Nicosia and Limassol?

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and the centre of government, politics, and administration. It hosts the Parliament, ministries, embassies, and other key state institutions. Limassol, on the other hand, is the country’s business and financial hub. It has the largest port in Cyprus and is a centre for shipping, logistics, and trade, as well as home to many international companies, banks, and fintech firms. Limassol is often considered the wealthiest and most cosmopolitan city on the island, and it ranks high for job opportunities. While there aren’t official city-level Cyprus salary stats, Payscale reports that the average base wage in Nicosia is around €29,000 per year (≈ €2,417/month) as of August 2025, and in Limassol it’s around €33,000 per year (≈ €2,750/month). Keep in mind, though, that Limassol’s growth as a tech hub also means higher living expenses. From what we've learned, the average monthly costs for a single person in Limassol are €2,500, presuming that a one-bedroom flat costs about €1,600 a month.

How many salaries do you get in a year in Cyprus?

The 13th-month salary in Cyprus—an extra month’s pay usually given at Christmas—isn’t legally required in the private sector, but it’s a common practice, similar to the system in France. If it’s included in your contract or a collective agreement, your employer is legally expected to honour it. Some agreements even include a 14th-month salary around Easter.

In other European countries, like Portugal, employees are legally entitled to one or two extra pays equal to a month’s salary.

What is the minimum wage in Cyprus?

Cyprus minimum wage was introduced on January 1st, 2023. According to the latest government data, full-time employees must now earn at least €1,000 gross per month, while new hires are entitled to €900 for the first six months. That works out to roughly €12,000–€13,000 per year, and a bit more if your workplace includes the 14th-month Easter bonus (which is actually more customary in Greece than in Cyprus).

Thanks to Cyprus’s favourable tax policies, the minimum net salary isn’t much lower—around €10,626–€11,511—since it only subtracts social security and contributions to the General Healthcare System (ΓεΣΥ or GeSY). What is a good salary in Cyprus?

If you’re thinking about moving to Cyprus, it helps to know what a comfortable salary looks like. Living costs vary across the island. According to Numbeo, a single person’s monthly expenses (excluding rent) are around €883 on average, with Nicosia at €883, Larnaca at €835, and Limassol a bit higher at €945. Rental prices are another factor: Landbank Properties reports that the average flat rent is €725 in Nicosia, €780 in Larnaca, and €1,000 in Limassol. Cyprus Mail also notes that Limassol has the highest rental prices in the country, while Famagusta has the lowest.

Taking both rent and living costs into account, a comfortable monthly budget for a single person would be around €1,600 in Nicosia or Larnaca, and about €1,950 in Limassol. Yearly, that comes to roughly €19,200–€23,400 in spending. Based on this, a good salary that allows you to save and have extra for fun, hobbies, saving up or investing, would oscillate between a gross annual €24,000 to €31,200. Average salary after tax in Cyprus

In Cyprus, personal income tax is progressive, which means the rate you pay depends on how much you earn: it ranges from 0% up to 35%. For 2025, the brackets are: 0% on income up to €19,500, 20% on €19,501–€28,000, 25% on €28,001–€36,300, 30% on €36,301–€60,000, and 35% for anything above €60,000. These rates apply whether you’re a resident or just earning money in Cyprus.

If you’re earning an average salary, you’d fall into the 25% bracket. That works out to a net annual income of about €25,229–€26,962, depending on whether you get 12 or 13 pay instalments.

Cyprus also offers some nice incentives for new residents. For example, you can get a 50% tax break on income above €55,000 per year, or a 20% reduction if you earn less than €8,550 annually.

What are the highest-paying jobs in Cyprus?

According to CySTAT data reported by Cyprus Business News, some sectors in Cyprus pay significantly more than others. In 2024, the highest average monthly earnings were found in:

• Mining support activities: ~€7,494/month
• Information services (including computer programming, consultancy, and related work): ~€4,959/month
• Computer programming & related roles (ICT sector): ~€4,550/month
• Financial & insurance activities: ~€4,695/month

At the other end, the lowest earnings in 2024 were in the agriculture, hunting, and forestry sector. These average at just €951/month (up slightly from €924 in 2023).
