GOG.com is a digital PC & Mac game distribution service--that's a mouthful of words that means that we sell games that you download to your PC or Mac. All of our games are DRM-free, and we bundle in extra content like soundtracks, wallpapers, and other goodies with every game we sell.

Position

GOG.com is seeking a talented and passionate Software Engineer, with a strong PHP background, for its Architects Team, to help us keep up with research and development, introducing new tools / solutions and technologies. You will be working on internal tools, services and web infrastructure closely with your fellow Architects, Development and IT teams in order to make our apps faster, more scalable, more secure and more error-resilient. You will get the chance to work on new amazing projects (both big and small / internal and external, self and cloud hosted) and platform features dedicated to delivering the best games to the global community.

Responsibilities

• Taking part in internal research and development projects (deployment, containers, security, high-availability, scalability and load balancing are only a few topics you will cover with the Architects)
• Working on our common libraries / solutions, used across teams
• Writing well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
• Sharing your knowledge with other team members and supporting them in solving complex challenges
• Staying abreast of best trends by researching new tools, as well as enhancing and further developing existing solutions

Your qualification

• 3+ years’ experience in web development
• Mastery in PHP7
• Experience in source control systems, deployment processes and containerization (git, git-flow, CI, docker)
• Experience with typical web app stack (Varnish, Memcached / Redis, Nginx, PHP-FPM / PHP-PM, MySQL)
• Good knowledge of Linux systems
• Understanding / Interest in the challenges arising from maintenance as well as development of applications 
• Ability to easily communicate in English

Will be a plus

• Golang / Python knowledge 
• Understanding of best security practices 
• Familiarity with Symfony in a production environment
• Hands-on experience with microservice architecture, projects scalability and performance tuning of web applications
• Knowledge of at least some of the buzzwords: REST, OAuth2, RabbitMQ, consul, golang, HTTP/2.0
• Experience with work in an agile environment
• Passion for gaming, game services, and online communities
