Catawiki was founded in 2008. It was originally designed as a website where collectors could manage and keep track of their collections online. Visitors can still add new items to the existing catalogue of collectibles. Unsurprisingly, the name Catawiki is a combination of the words ‘catalogue’ and ‘wiki’. In 2011, Catawiki began hosting weekly auctions in various categories, including art, antiques, classic cars, watches, jewellery, fashion, books, and stamps.
How we work
At Catawiki, we keep our users close to our hearts and make sure that we deliver a great user experience across all platforms. Android is no exception! As an Android developer working at Catawiki, you are empowered to take full ownership of the features we deliver and full ownership of how we structure our codebase.
We embrace change, we’ve migrated from MVC to MVP and then to MVVM. Currently, we are using Kotlin and enjoying all the cool advantages that come with it. We are constantly improving our architecture, which makes working at Catawiki fun and challenging at the same time.
What you’ll do
Here at Catawiki, you will have a huge impact, working in a data-driven way to add value to the business along with the other 7 members of the Android team. You will add your own expertise to further grow our business, experiment, and innovate the product.
You’ll be adding new features to create an even greater experience for our users. As well as actively collaborating with your fellow Android developers to take the codebase and the entire Android App to the next level. Our millions of users will thank you for that!
How we roll - Our Stack
Our codebase is primarily written in Kotlin and has minor traces of Java as we continue to adopt Kotlin for all new features and refactors. Our app uses MVVM as a general architecture, and we rely heavily on the reactive/functional paradigm using RxJava. We also make use of Android’s Architecture Components. We are using the most popular 3rd parties like Dagger 2, Retrofit, view binding, as well as Mockito and Espresso for testing.
As a Senior Engineer II, which resembles the Staff Engineer level, you have a proven track record on influencing and guiding the development of the Android tech stack in your company. You have often operated outside of the boundaries of your team, and can give many examples on your effectiveness doing so. With Catawiki you will continue to do so.
With your extensive knowledge about Android, you like to cooperate with engineers throughout the company, regularly focusing on cross-cutting business features, or just to help out your colleagues. You also provide guidance within our Android Platform team, where our Android engineers often gather to improve our Android tech stack together, and you assist and help our Android Platform Lead. Apart from this you have coached multiple engineers over the years, for longer periods of time, and you will apply your coaching skills in Catawiki to help your fellow Android engineers grow in the best possible way. Last but not least you have often (co-)created opportunity proposals and RFC's. You feel at home when you need to describe problems, opportunities, pros and cons of solution alternatives, and tying these to technical solution proposals, regularly comparing new techniques to proven existing techniques. You feel comfortable in explaining discussing your proposals with Product Managers, UX-designers and multiple Tech teams. As a passionate engineer, you bring these values to Catawiki:

We’ve embraced an activity-based way of working, meaning our team can choose how they split their work week between home and the office, in line with our remote framework and guidelines. Our experts and sales staff in local markets work 100% remotely – in most cases from home. Some key positions are hired remotely, while we also offer relocation services for colleagues needing to be closer to the office.
