Amsterdam, Netherlands
Catawiki was founded in 2008. It was originally designed as a website where collectors could manage and keep track of their collections online. Visitors can still add new items to the existing catalogue of collectibles. Unsurprisingly, the name Catawiki is a combination of the words ‘catalogue’ and ‘wiki’. In 2011, Catawiki began hosting weekly auctions in various categories, including art, antiques, classic cars, watches, jewellery, fashion, books, and stamps.
Catawiki’s promise to our users is: find the objects you love, and we’ll take care of the rest! That means that our auctions are 100% curated by experts. We speak the same language as our users. We enable sellers of all sizes (both individuals and companies) to scale their business globally without worrying about the financial and legal complexity of international trade.
In addition to our external users, our FinTech team also closely supports other constituents such as our internal Finance, Tax, Legal, and Payments Operations teams to ensure internal and external compliance with laws and regulations in the many markets we operate.
As a key player in our FinTech team, you’ll:
About the team
The FinTech team is multicultural, with members from four different continents and six countries! We cherish diversity, which brings diverse perspectives to develop the best solutions for our users.
The team consists of back-end, front-end, mobile, and QA engineers, a dedicated product manager, team manager and UX designer. We take end-to-end ownership of problems and work closely with other teams and functions to gather requirements and ensure the delivery of compliant solutions.
The team currently supports and actively develops multiple solutions for internal (company employees) and external (end users) customers. These include receipts and invoices generated after every single transaction on the platform and are surfaced to buyers and sellers in both the mobile apps and the web platform.
Furthermore, the team actively develops and supports the rules and logic for taxes applied to every platform transaction. This ensures the right amounts are collected from buyers and sellers for tax purposes and that later the correct amounts are reported to the relevant tax authorities, making trading with the other side of the globe as easy as buying from your home country.
We also support our sellers in managing their taxes and profit and loss by providing them with different reports and data exports that allow them to do their accounting smoothly, so they can focus on their passion.
Additionally, the team is involved in maintaining and extending the internal accounting system that records all revenue and expense movements happening on the platform. This means that we need to closely monitor and collaborate with multiple other teams to understand the different changes happening on the platform and how they might impact the company's accounting ledger.
Last but not least, the team actively develops a self-service rule engine that allows for flexibility in determining what commission buyers and sellers should pay to Catawiki.
How we roll - Our Stack
As the biggest marketplace for special items, Catawiki operates in a market that brings unusual challenges and opportunities. You will be developing, testing and scaling our microservices, written in Ruby, to handle the high volume served by the platform every single day.
We do this by using Infrastructure as Code principles, collaborative peer-reviews, delivering code to production multiple times a day, A/B testing every assumption, monitoring diligently and reacting to issues promptly.
Moreover, we try to constantly learn from the ups and downs and iterate quickly to deliver customer value continuously.
Who you'll move in sync with
You’ll work closely with our other core teams such as Logistics, Fulfilment, Payments, Commercial, Finance, Tax & Legal. In addition, you’ll collaborate with other tech teams and other functions and departments within (or even sometimes outside) the company.
A little about you
The FinTech team is looking for people with a strong product mindset who like solving financial and commercial problems by leveraging technology.
If scale and complexity excite you, this is the right place! We are looking for open people who want to grow and strive to continuously improve the systems, processes, and people around them.
Prior knowledge of the Finance, Tax & Compliance is not required; however, strong collaboration skills will be needed to efficiently work with subject matter experts of those areas, and to translate laws, regulations and requirements into scalable, resilient and maintainable tech solutions.
So, apply if you...
This is your chance to become part of a fast but sustainable growing tech company! You'll be part of an enthusiastic, highly motivated team of 750+ international Catawikians; you'll have big responsibilities and can really create something. Additionally you can expect:
And there’s more! Paid holidays, Holiday Allowance, a discount on health insurance and a fantastic pension plan paid for by Catawiki.
Our offices and new way of working
Catawiki is embracing an activity-based way of working, meaning employees are empowered to choose how they split their work week between the office and home. Most team members based in countries with Catawiki offices will collaborate from the office two days a week, and work remotely for the rest.
Our experts and sales staff in our local markets work 100% remotely – in most cases from their home offices. We also hire several other key positions remotely. We offer relocation services for new colleagues who need to work office-based.
