About Catawiki

Catawiki was founded in 2008. It was originally designed as a website where collectors could manage and keep track of their collections online. Visitors can still add new items to the existing catalogue of collectibles. Unsurprisingly, the name Catawiki is a combination of the words ‘catalogue’ and ‘wiki’. In 2011, Catawiki began hosting weekly auctions in various categories, including art, antiques, classic cars, watches, jewellery, fashion, books, and stamps.

Position

With your expertise in software and systems engineering, you will be responsible for the Catawiki Platform infrastructure and automation by:

  • Developing infrastructure automation and eliminating menial tasks
  • Making sure the infrastructure is scalable, reproducible and stable
  • Identifying any single point of failures and building solutions to remove them
  • Sharing on-call responsibilities
  • Guiding Engineering teams on best practices and approaches

Here’s Finke, one of our senior engineers

“Hi, I’m Finke! I have been working for Catawiki for 5+ years and I keep learning a lot as I’m morphing through different iterations of our Platform team to keep up with the business requirements and the need for growth of the infrastructure. As business demands change, so must we, and the Infrastructure team is picking up the responsibility of managing the Cloud platforms we use, as well as supporting the rest of the Platform team in providing their services on top of what we built.“

You'll move in sync with…

As a part of a multidisciplinary team (software/ reliability/ data /test engineers and product/project managers) within a functional area, you’ll be making sure scalability and reliability aspects are built-in and being delivered on within all steps of the development lifecycle, ensuring smooth operations.

Your qualification

You have a solid knowledge base of system concepts, particularly in Linux systems and have used this to hone your skills with hypervisors and/or container runtimes. By sharing ownership with developers and using the same tools you reduce organisational silos. You leverage tooling and automation and love to effectively solve and communicate problems. Next, to this it’s likely you’ll also have experience with:

  • Software, Systems and Security engineering
  • iAC tools like Ansible/Puppet/Terraform/Pulumi and its use and/or introduction in existing large-scale infrastructure
  • Kubernetes and other Cloud Native technologies (Docker/Helm)
  • Relational databases some familiarity with NoSQL databases
  • Monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus/AlertManager, ELK, Grafana)
  • Next to a passion for problem solving, troubleshooting and a sharp eye for details you’ll also have excellent written and verbal communication

Will be a plus

  • Practical experience with Kafka
  • Practical experience in large distributed systems and how to ensure stability
  • Practical experience with Google Cloud or other cloud providers

And here's some more information about our tech stack...

It's not essential you know all of these but here's what our team are currently using day to day:

  • Terraform / Ansible / helm / kustomize
  • CI/CD - CircleCI/ArgoCD
  • Github
  • Google Cloud
  • Kubernetes
  • AWS
  • Nginx
  • Bash / Python / Go

What we offer

This is your chance to become part of a fast but sustainable growing tech company! You will have an exciting role in a young, fast-growing, dynamic & international organisation. You'll be part of an enthusiastic, highly motivated team of 700+ international Catawikians; you'll have big responsibilities and can really create something. Additionally you can expect:
