About Catawiki

Catawiki was founded in 2008. It was originally designed as a website where collectors could manage and keep track of their collections online. Visitors can still add new items to the existing catalogue of collectibles. Unsurprisingly, the name Catawiki is a combination of the words ‘catalogue’ and ‘wiki’. In 2011, Catawiki began hosting weekly auctions in various categories, including art, antiques, classic cars, watches, jewellery, fashion, books, and stamps.

Position

We’re looking for a Data Science Manager for our Commercial Data Insights team who will manage a team of Data Scientists / Analysts that support all the commercial departments of Catawiki (Marketing, Experts, Sales, Categories & Clusters, Finance) in using data to better understand our marketplace dynamics, to take the right decisions, and to identify opportunities to build a better Catawiki.

You will do that in four ways:

  • You’ll lead and support a team of 5-8 Commercial Data Scientists / Data Analysts in your team, help them grow in their careers by giving them thoughtful and detailed feedback, and increase their impact in the company
  • You will also be hands-on involved yourself in finding actionable insights, building scalable insights for stakeholders, solving the hardest analytical questions and providing concrete technical and data science guidance to the team where needed
  • You will connect with senior business managers (e.g Directors & VPs in Marketing, Finance, Commercial Operations) to understand their goals and challenges, and ensure alignment with your team’s strategy and roadmap
  • You will own and improve the BI & Data Self-Service stack and experience that the data team is providing to the entire company, in close collaboration with our Data Engineering team

What you'll do

  • Manage a team of smart, motivated Data Scientists & Data Analysts using who want to learn and have impact
  • Support and guide the work of your team by thinking along, performing code reviews and providing feedback
  • Help your team to manage and prioritise their workload
  • Help hire and onboard new data scientists
  • Organise and own team rituals, meetings, and processes
  • Use your broad skill set to solve challenging analytical problems, working with senior stakeholders across the business
  • Own the improvement of our data warehouse, data self-service tools, and BI/Analytics tech stack (currently: Google BigQuery, Dataform (Google’s dbt), Python, Airflow, Great Expectations, Google sheets)
  • Perform performance evaluations and use these to guide individuals' career paths and growth
  • Establish and maintain a healthy working culture and high engagement within the team
  • Work directly with your stakeholders to understand their goals, roadmap and challenges and align those with your team’s goals and strategy
  • Work closely together with the other Data teams, in particular Data Engineering and Product Analytics to improve our data capabilities and culture.

Your qualification

  • An experienced Data Scientist with a strong quantitative background and 6+ years of relevant hands-on experience, ideally including experience with marketing analytics
  • Experience with managing a data team (at least 1 year)
  • Experience working in a commercial environment with senior non-technical stakeholders,
  • Experience with self-service BI products and driving decisions regarding the Data Analytics tech stack and related working best practices
  • A leader focused on people development in your team, and experienced with hiring and onboarding new talent
  • You’re a strong hands-on data scientist who is pragmatic, willing and able to use any tool to get the job done: you’re fluent in SQL and Python but understand that Google Sheets are also an important tool for non technical stakeholders
  • You understand the benefits of and know how to deliver scalable and self-explanatory data products (code, dashboards, complex automated spreadsheets…). You are able to mentor other team members on this, and to drive change in the team’s way of working
  • With examples from your own experience, you can demonstrate a strong focus on deriving actionable business insights from your analyses
  • Strong communication skills and being able to work at a fast pace with business owners, engineers and management
  • Proven stakeholder management experience: you are comfortable with managing multiple’s stakeholders expectations both in terms of timing and outcome. You know why, when and how to challenge them in an effective manner. Prioritisation is always on your mind. You do this not only for your own work, but also as much as possible for any project or initiative you are involved in
  • An entrepreneurial mindset that enables you to get things done, also if that requires actions outside your own area or comfort zone

What we offer

This is your chance to join our mission to fulfil people’s passions, as part of a young and dynamic organisation. You'll be part of an enthusiastic, highly-motivated team of 800+ Catawikians. Additionally, you can expect:

  • A challenging role in a diverse, international and fast-growing organisation with over 50 nationalities
  • Regular fun activities both on and offline e.g summer parties, boat rides and regular team events
  • Great secondary benefits including a holiday allowance and a fantastic pension plan paid for by Catawiki
  • Hybrid ways of working between home and office. We offer remote and activity-based working, suited to the team and individual responsibilities
  • We care about our teams’ wellbeing and offer a holistic wellbeing programme including our Employee Assistance Programme offering clinical services, single-session therapy, wellness support and more
  • Tailored learning and development opportunities to support your personal and professional growth

We want to help you celebrate special occasions in life by:

  • Providing employees with a 100 EURO Catavoucher upon joining and 50 EURO birthday Catavouchers
  • Extra days of annual leave for work anniversaries at 3, 5, 8 and 10 years
  • Additional leave allowances for important life events such as moving, engagement & marriage
  • Each year Catawikians get an additional day’s leave to Pursue their Passion!

Where you'll be

This role is based in our Amsterdam office, in the Netherlands. We do offer an excellent relocation package for people who want to move to the Netherlands.

Our commitment to you

Catawiki’s eclectic team represents an international and intergenerational mix of people from different professional and cultural backgrounds. We foster an inclusive and queer-friendly work environment, committed to making every Catawikian feel welcomed and empowered. Whatever your story, we encourage you to bring your unique perspective to the table.

Catawiki stands with Ukraine and encourages people displaced by the current conflict to apply. In addition to the several initiatives we’ve launched, we’re open to ideas on ways we can continue to support the humanitarian effort.

Our offices and new way of working

We’ve embraced an activity-based way of working, meaning our team can choose how they split their work week between home and the office, in line with our remote framework and guidelines. In locations where we have physical offices, most employees enjoy two days at the office to connect and collaborate with each other.

Our experts and sales staff in local markets work 100% remotely – in most cases from home. Some key positions are hired remotely, while we also offer relocation services for colleagues needing to be closer to the office.
