Position

The Workshop's IT Services Group is looking for a talented Platform Engineer to deploy, support, sustain, and grow the software systems that build, scale, monitor, secure, manage, and automate our complex infrastructure. In this role, you will work with systems and software engineers to create proactive engineering mechanisms that will enable your team to manage the health of a number of distributed specialized Linux/Windows server fleets and the software stacks that run on them. Last but not least, the support of the underlaying virtualization systems based in VMWare and OpenStack will be part of the day to day activities of this role.

In this role you will:

• Administrate the organization's server infrastructure in a multi-location environment based in Linux/Windows systems running under OpenStack / VMWare
• Create simple yet powerful deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality
• Participate in the design of data management policies, processes, and solutions for our enterprise. Specifically, this includes network security, disaster recovery, and high availability 
• Controlling the Operating Systems patching lifecycle including repositories maintenance, packages release and reports generation for both Windows and Linux OS
• Work closely with CSI team to keep our cloud platforms up to date with latest improvements and patches
• Administer SCM system like Puppet or Ansible
• Extend the usage of Infrastructure tools to the rest of the teams
• Provide top tier technical assistance and work with Desktop Support teams in the management of users and Windows based workstations
• Proactively monitor the infrastructure for issues and capacity planning 
• Work with vendors and our purchasers to procure appropriate products and services
• Stay on top of network technology advancements to provide recommendations for the ongoing improvements to our networks

Your qualification

• Experience with systems administration in Linux/Unix (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, Solaris, etc.) and/or Microsoft OS (Windows Server 2012 and 2016)
• +2 years of proven experience with virtualization systems based on VMWare and/or OpenStack
• Candidates should also have had significant past experience with, and expertise in many of the following protocols & technologies: IPv4 & IPv6, TCP (internals & flow control), DNS and HTTP
• Experience with automation and scripting in a Linux environment (Bash, Python, etc.) and/or Windows (PowerShell) is highly desired 
• Wide experience with configuration management tools like Puppet, Ansible or similar
