We provide a simple and clear payment API, which enables webshop and app builders to implement more than ten different payment methods in one go.

Position

Mollie is one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe, and we are facing many interesting challenges from both a technical, as well as organizational perspective. You will play a key role in the development of new features, and maintenance of existing features and you’ll have the opportunity to shape the rest of your career at Mollie.

As a Full Stack Engineer at Mollie, you’ll be able to make an impact by creating next-level user experiences, as well as solving complex backend challenges. You will work closely with our UI engineers, backend engineers, and occasionally with the Design team to build products that our customers love.

What you'll be doing:

You will be working with us on creating cutting-edge, user-friendly financial products which are used by hundreds of thousands of users on a monthly basis. We care for quality and well-designed user experiences—for engineers and non-engineers alike. This translates to clean, well-documented REST APIs and equally smooth user interfaces for our merchants.

As a Full Stack Engineer, you will bridge the gap between those APIs and user interfaces, working across the spectrum to translate our APIs to intuitive visual products which our non-technical merchants use to access our services. With multiple payments being performed on our platform every second of the day, code quality and system scalability are becoming increasingly important. Helping us build scalable products by thinking ahead will be an important part of your work.

Next to our existing APIs and dashboard, we are working on innovative financial solutions for our merchants. We are happy to share the details over a coffee, but it's safe to say we will put your skills to the test allowing you to grow and learn rapidly.

Our architecture

We come from a monolithic background, with our core systems being written mostly in PHP. As our company started to scale up rapidly, we have scaled our infrastructure along with it by employing services, as well as queueing systems.

Mollie’s frontend landscape consists of multiple apps, and each application has its own setup, which is optimized for the app’s purpose. Think of our merchant dashboard, API documentation, mobile apps, etc.

In general, our apps are written using TypeScript, in React. Most of our backend systems are written using PHP/Node and are hosted in the Google Cloud.

We work with flexible and reusable components, have an extensive UI library that we maintain internally, and are always looking for parts of the codebase that we can open-source and share with the community.

As a Full Stack Engineer, you will be building out new features using the UI library that’s maintained by our UI Engineers, and work closely together with them to further improve this library.

Your qualification

• Minimum of 3 years experience with developing full-stack web applications, preferably using PHP/MySQL stacks, in combination with modern Javascript frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular
• While you don’t have to be an expert on CSS, you are comfortable implementing a user interface using tools like CSS (CSS modules) or CSS-in-JS (Styled Components) 
• Knowledge of language primitives. You should feel comfortable interacting with native APIs built into the browser
• Experience with creating public or internal REST APIs
• A knack for creating intuitive user experiences
• Experience with test-driven development 
• You enjoy being a generalist, working on frontend, backend, and sometimes even a bit of DevOps, as needed to solve problems and delight our users (You don’t need to be an expert in all of these but it helps to be interested in learning about them)

Will be a plus

• You have experience mentoring other engineers, and like to help others grow in their careers
• If you have experience with design systems and/or internally developed component libraries, that is a big advantage
• Experience with Node back-end development
• Experience with Google Cloud
• Experience as a contributor to an open-source project. Contributor to GitHub and/or Stack Overflow

Because of the current circumstances, we will interview you as well as hire you completely remotely. You will start working remotely, but as soon as possible, you will continue your work at our office in the heart of Lisbon.
