Position

The Search Machine Learning Platform team builds the end-to-end machine learning platform that supports Indeed’s most mission and performance critical products. The team’s mission is to provide the machine learning platform that leverages Indeed’s massive volume of data and incorporates the latest machine learning trends and technologies to power critical products like job search and recommendation teams. We strive to enable teams across Indeed to match every job seeker with the most relevant jobs. The team also ‘dogfoods’ the platform to serve and iteratively improve machine learning models used in all aspects of the job search experience.

As the Staff Data Scientist for this team, you will partner with your team and lead the machine-learning platform evolution that will serve Indeed for years to come. You will lean on the team’s and your technical expertise to serve Indeed’s unique machine learning challenges. You will partner with both engineers and data scientists on your team, and across Indeed products to this end.

As a Staff Data Scientist on the team, you will:

• Build a highly performant machine learning framework that works in latency critical use cases like search and ranking
• Incorporate latest data science techniques into our platform to assist better model evaluation and understandability, and serve it to all users
• Partner with jobsearch and recommendations teams to build POC ML models that scale to production, and iterate through offline and online experiments
• Iterate on model architecture and features via A/B testing to improve models used for our jobsearch globally
• Mentor and grow other software engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers across teams
• Break down larger ML initiatives into pieces that deliver incremental business value and lead the team to execute on them
• Represent Indeed at major ML conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR

Your qualification

We are looking for someone who is passionate about designing and building machine learning systems, loves intellectual challenges, is eager to learn, and wants to work with a variety of technologies to “help people get jobs”.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer, Data Scientist, or Machine Learning Engineer
• Prior success deploying (impactful) ML solutions to large-scale production systems, while collaborating across teams
• Solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms
• Strong sense of ownership as a technical and product leader
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal with both technical and business audiences

We get excited about candidates who:

• Have an advanced degree (PhD or MS) or prior research experience in the fields of machine learning, statistics, or computer science
• Have the desire to solve difficult problems at the intersection of machine learning, data engineering, and software engineering
• Have extensive experience and knowledge with cloud technologies (AWS preferred)
• Have search technology experience such as Lucene, Solr and/or Elasticsearch
• Have prior success deploying Recommender Systems / Search Ranking / etc. to large-scale production systems
• Have designed and analyzed A/B tests
