About Vimcar

As one of Berlin's most successful SaaS companies, Vimcar is redefining business mobility. By combining live car data and a set of cloud-based applications, we offer real-time insight into vehicle activity to help our customers reduce the operational costs for their fleets.

By serving freelancers, small and medium-sized companies, Vimcar already has connected more than 100,000+ cars and we are incredibly proud to serve the companies who are the backbone of our economy: the electricians, the doctors, the plumbers, the retailers, the construction workers - everyone whose business is on the road.

Headquartered in Berlin, more than 200 employees from 30+ countries are working towards our mission to build Europe's leading fleet tech company. We do not believe in hyper-growth at any cost and burning loads of Venture Capital but in sustainable growth driven by smart people and innovative ideas. If you are not celebrating funding rounds, but value a great customer experience and passionate colleagues: Vimcar might be the right place for you!

Important information regarding COVID-19: the safety of our employees is crucial to us. Therefore, you can expect the application process and the start of your employment with us to be remote until further notice.

Position

Live tracking business vehicles is the very core of our business. Our 100,000+ connected cars are constantly sending us real-time data like location and vehicle status (1500+ messages/second). All of this data has to be flawlessly received, processed, stored, and also we need to extract something that's structured and meaningful for our customers from this data. That's what our Data Integration team is responsible for. You will collaborate on working with the real-time ingestion, processing and storage of data from all of Vimcar’s connected cars as well as writing the algorithms which read and make sense of this raw data.

While working with a collaborative and diverse team, you will have a direct impact on how we manage, process and store the data of our connected cars to add value to our users.

Your Role

  • You will take part in architectural decisions and ongoing improvements to the core logic of sophisticated algorithms for extracting meaningful, valuable information from our large streams of data
  • You will closely collaborate with the rest of the team which is eager to exchange and discuss ideas
  • You will collaborate in building and maintain a high-performing, and scalable system
  • You will be responsible for the infrastructure, deployment and testing of your code (but no worries, there's a test-automation specialist within the team who will support you)

The Tech Stack

  • All new development is done in Python using a service-oriented architecture
  • Our team is responsible for its own infrastructure and we rely heavily on AWS services, primarily DyanmoDB, Lambda, Kinesis and ECS
  • We have multiple data ingestion pipelines which process GPS and telemetry data from all of Vimcar’s connected vehicles in real-time
  • We write and maintain algorithms for extracting business-critical information from the raw GPS and telemetry data
  • Our infrastructure is defined with CDK and our build, test and deployment pipelines are automated using AWS tools and services
  • Some of our legacy systems are written in Java which we are migrating to new Python-based systems

Your qualification

  • You enjoy working in a warm and highly collaborative team
  • You have hands-on working experience with one or more AWS services (DynamoDB, Kinesis and Lambda)
  • You are familiar with Python and have the ability to understand and work with Java code
  • You are comfortable communicating in English

Will be a plus

  • Experience with stream processing or time-series databases
  • Experience with ECS or CDK

What we offer

  • Why should you join us? At Vimcar, you can take an established business through an exciting growth period
  • A very collaborative culture, and team including a high impact role working on a mission-critical system
  • A chance to work on challenging and super interesting problems which are fundamental to the success of Vimcar
  • The opportunity to build clean, new systems for an established user base
  • The opportunity to learn while joining a very collaborative and supportive team which gives space for ideas and values honest feedback
  • An agile work environment with a lightweight process that focuses on the work itself
  • A place where your growth is taken seriously and your personal and skill development will be invested in by providing, for example, a personal development budget and free in-house language classes
  • Mental Health support - Premium access to headspace for day-to-day care, and to Nilo.health platform if you would like a session with a psychologist
  • We support highly flexible working policies and we will fully support your relocation – it doesn’t matter where you currently live
  • Personal learning budget to support your professional growth, as well as free in-house language courses
  • Access to company carsharing, fresh fruit and free drinks around the office, frequent company events, and a variety of other perks, including membership with Urban Sports Club
  • Hybrid setup: Currently we’re working 100% remotely (though we provide the opportunity to work from the office). After it will be safe to come back to the office, we decided to work 1 day/week from our office in Berlin and the remaining 4 days will be up for everyone to decide individually wherefrom they want to work
