Position

Contentful is driving growth for its customers and using insights from data to make this happen. The Data Engineers at Contentful have built a data platform to enable the continued ingestion of data powering insights, customer outreach and support and, most importantly, product improvement. We hope you will join a team tasked with improving the platform through continued oversight and innovation to provide this enriched data to teams throughout the company.

The data platform is centered around our Data Lake, Data Warehouse and the micro-services that help continually ingest data from vital resources from Contentful as well as such as Salesforce, Zendesk, and Customer Data Management platforms. We are growing rapidly and adding additional tools that need to resiliently power the company.

As a Data Engineer at Contentful, you will work on retrieval as well as distribution of data from various data pipelines across the entire Contentful Stack together with our Infrastructure, Backend, and Frontend engineers to ensure that data is consistently flowing and to scale our backend systems accordingly. Collaboration also continues with provision of ETL tooling for our Data Analysts who are utilizing data to build high performance domain models meeting the critical needs of our Contentful stakeholders.

What to expect?

• Contribute to the building of an enhanced data platform to power Contentful’s growth built on greater insights used in marketing, product and sales strategies
• Assess and impact the current reliability, monitoring, and security of the data platform that centers around the Data Lake and Data Warehouse and suggest and enact improvements
• Continuously improve orchestration processes and ETL services using tools such as Airflow
• Develop and maintain the infrastructure and tools around the data pipeline (AWS resources via terraform, own Kubernetes cluster)
• Integrate and oversee Data Pipeline Applications (data collectors that live within or outside the Contentful core infrastructure)
• Collaborate with Analytic Engineers and Data Analysts to transform analytical requirements into high performing domain models

Your qualification

• You can build applications to help and support data collection in a micro-service architecture
• Comfortable with Docker, as we are using it extensively
• Experience with Athena, AWS Redshift, and classic databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• You are familiar with AWS services and concepts (VPC, IAM)
• Experience with ETL processing pipelines and design in batch and in real-time
• Experience using Segment is considered a plus and knowledge of Airflow, Kubernetes, and Terraform is a strong benefit
• Experience with any of the messaging systems (such as PubSub/Stream, RabbitMQ, AWS Kinesis, and Kafka) is nice to have
• Solid, professional knowledge of Python and/or Golang with TypeScript being an advantage (We write our services in Go and Python primarily and occasionally in Typescript)
• You have strong SQL modelling and optimization knowledge for different analytics workloads and scenarios
• Taking on new challenges and collaborating with others to successfully resolve them
• Understanding of the benefit of working within a diverse team to gather differing experiences and perspectives for optimal results
