Position

At Applift we develop a real-time platform at scale, with million of users events daily and response time of a few milliseconds. Applift industry require innovation and reactiveness to the rapid industry changes.

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our Engineering team. Besides being an amazing team player and motivator, you are an excellent Software Engineer and technical Project Manager. You will be working in a startup atmosphere with a dynamic team and you will have major impact on the company future. We run our systems in AWS. Our techstack includes Kubernetes, Docker, JavaScript, React, Kotlin, Vert.x, Kafka, Aerospike, Postgres, and Elasticsearch.

Responsibilities

• Manage teams of 10+ engineers comprising of frontend, backend and DevOps engineers located in Berlin and remotely
• Ensure operational excellence for high availability systems
• Attract, hire and grow top engineering talent; actively mentor and motivate your team
• Be data-oriented and know how to design metrics to measure delivery quality, code quality and technical systems’ operational performance
• Setup software development standards, guidelines, and processes for efficiency
• Choose technologies; build a path to their adoption and communicate trade-offs
• Provide assessment of system and application design as well as code quality
• Work with Product Management on Project Management including risk, timeline, features prioritization, capacity management and roadmaps
• Represent your team to senior leadership and across other groups

Your qualification

• Be tech savvy with 3+ years experience in a people management role and 10+ years of overall experience in software development
• Track record in delivery and operations of complex high-scale distributed platforms in the cloud
• Skillable Project Manager and multiple Technical Project Coordinator within multi-disciplinary team setup and skill around agile development
• Solid prior experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Architect in JVM-based stack
• Understand DevOps culture and orientation and role of DevOps engineers in the delivery team
• Great communicator and thoughtful technical leader
