QuadSAT started from a university spinout in 2017 and is building a first-class product; a mobile and in situ antenna testing solution, based on a UAV. Build and lead an effective software team
Right from the start, one of your main goals will be developing and launching a desktop application for clients by the end of the year. The software is a pre-flight, post-flight tool for operators to manage the hardware. It includes flight planning, data processing and data visualisation and storage.
You will be part of the software team that currently consists of one software engineer plus two external software developers, guiding the team through the development of the application and owning key components of the software while implementing features and functionalities.
Your main area of responsibility is to manage software releases; you will motivate, and ensure that the team has the necessary information and tools to excel and you will be planning capacity and ensure that the team delivers according to agreed criteria and road map, and you will still have the opportunity to dive deep into the application and code regularly.
In short, your responsibilities and daily/routine tasks as the Head of Software will be:
- Creating high-level product specifications and design documents
- Providing the development team with architectural blueprints to follow
- Guiding and assisting the development team throughout the process
- Ensuring that you and the team adhere to development schedules and deadlines
- Presenting regular progress reports and setting goals
- Testing the final product to ensure it is completely functional and meets requirements
- Updating software solutions as required
- Communicate system requirements to software development teams
- Evaluate and select appropriate software or hardware and suggest integration methods
Your qualification
A skilled technical leader and communicator
You are a highly skilled technical architect and technical leader with at least 5 years of experience. You are able to motivate your colleagues in the software goal and you are able to translate the management’s vision and backlog into tangible goals and tasks.
You’re a great engineer with Python experience, having experience with desktop applications as well as GUI - maybe you also have experience with web applications. You have some experience with technical leadership and you’re a great communicator across all levels in the organisation, having the pedigree to engage with stakeholders in the organisation.
As a person, you’re ambitious and eager to learn and develop as an engineer and a leader. You’re organised and you’re able to maintain the focus of the whole team towards a vision. You can understand and manage the bigger picture while taking on day-to-day tasks that naturally come in a growing start-up.
