About DTU

DTU, Technical University of Denmark is an internationally recognised technical university located in Lyngby, just North of Copenhagen. DTU provides internationally leading research, education, innovation and public service.

Position

Do you want freedom to perform and major impact locally and at society level?

If you excel within data modelling, data architecture and data engineering, and you are looking for an opportunity to make an impact clearly beyond the average, you have found it. In this unique job, you will not only get the chance to work with a lot of different types of data and metadata and be trusted to find the right way going forward. Your work will be an indispensable foundation for the work of your world-class scientist and subject matter expert colleagues.

At DTU Biosustain we develop the next generation (bio) technology using synthetic biology techniques. We create novel methods and technologies as a foundation for development of new environment friendly products, better and less energy consuming manufacturing processes, new medical treatments, climate friendly farming, etc. In other words, we try to solve some of the biggest challenges in the history of mankind, and you will get the chance to add your personal mark to this.

Responsibilities

Information and data architecture within Data Warehouse and Data Lake platform

You will join a new team and play a pivotal role in taking our data management to the next level. You will make your important contribution via maintenance and further development of information and data architecture related to our existing Data Warehouse and Data Lake platform. Your work will be founded on an agile mindset, where we use a combination of Scrum and Kanban. Your primary tasks will be:

  • Maintenance and development of the implemented data model and data architecture
  • To build ETL and data synchronization pipelines
  • Collaboration with software engineers on ensuring data safety and security while accessing data though internally created software
  • Mentoring of junior software developers and engineers
  • Ensure appropriate data governance across the data storage platform

You can look forward to being part of a leading research and education institution in Europe where on-going development of skills and knowledge is a part of the foundation. You will have great flexibility, as trust and respect are some of the values we build our results on.

Your qualification

3+ years of experience with data modelling, data architecture and data engineering

To succeed, in this position you must be a quick learner with a curious mind for knowledge in and outside your primary field of expertise. Naturally, you love working with data. What makes you stand apart in a positive way is your ability to communicate complex problems in a simple and easy-to-understand way to your partners, that not necessarily have your own expert knowledge. You must also thrive on driving things forward and make decisions, also without knowing the full picture. As you will be part of a centre, where collaboration is a cornerstone, you must also be a teamplayer and like to share knowledge and ideas. Additionally, your CV comprises:

  • A degree in computer science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience with:
  • Data modelling, data architecture and data engineering
  • On-premises and cloud technologies
  • Relational databases (PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server)
  • Programming languages (Python and SQL)
  • Git
  • Docker
  • Motivation for building skills within:
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Full-text indexing and NLP (Elasticsearch or Lucene)
  • Graph databases (Neo4J)
