Position
Our hiring partner, based in downtown Toronto, is an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and collaborative team working towards transforming the way Canadians shop by creating leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, loyalty, and apparel spaces.
Their technology division has more than 700 employees.
They are looking for an experienced Principal Software Developer to join their team that creates the software powering an online shopping platform for groceries and household goods.
Your role:
- Take ownership of a cross-cutting technical domain
- Define a vision for that domain
- Build strong relationships and influence to execute on your vision
- Consult with other principal developers to align solutions
- Lead by example, building great software
- Continuing mentoring, especially senior and staff developers
- Working with Product leaders to flesh out features that will alter interfaces or introduce new components
- Defining metrics and KPI’s (SLI, SLO’s) for the software platform
- Ensuring software platform meets SLO’s
- Kick off new Engineering Improvement projects for the development team
- Working with the director of software engineering to ensure a healthy tech team
- Help the director of software engineering to ensure tech goals are incorporated into the roadmap
Your qualification
- You have seen a lot as a very experienced developer. You are an expert in at least one of those domains and can work confidently in the other
- Enjoy staying up to speed on the latest developments in front-end technology while maintaining a critical view on what ones may suit our platform and customers best
- Proven excellence in system design from the client down to the backend services
- Exceptional ability to communicate technical designs and ideas to a diverse audience of technical and non-technical individuals
- Ability to write code that clearly demonstrates engineering best practices
- Experience building and maintaining large-scale applications
