Position

• Attract, excite and retain the best engineering talent for Wunder
• Lead, inspire and influence your team of backend engineers to make sure we are continuously shipping high quality
• Play a central role in technical decisions regarding our backend
• Advocate for best practices in programming and take care of code consistency
• Grow the technical expertise of the engineering team on Ruby, Elixir and Node.JS
• Work with our CTO and with other engineers to design & architect new products & features for the Wunder Apps
• Build out our services in a data-driven environment
• Understand, challenge and improve algorithms
• Increase the use of machine learning techniques
• Develop, ship and maintain existing features by writing methodical, maintainable code
• Work with our UI/UX experts to extend our existing mobile apps on iOS/Android and create new, compelling experiences and features
• Help the company growth by creating tools to better engage with our users

Your qualification

• You are experienced with leading, coaching and mentoring teams
• You have a strong international network of world-class engineers
• You love interviewing, developing and growing people
• You have a good long-term vision and technical watch
• 5+ years developing highly dynamic backend for mobile applications
• Solid software engineering skills in a scrum environment
• Expertise in Ruby on Rails, Elixir apps and the ability to quickly pick up new technologies & skills
• Good grasp of non-trivial design patterns and focus on best practices and conventions is required
• Good experience with mobile device communication and proven work with iOS/Android apps
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and NoSQL technologies
• Experience with scaling and performance optimization of large systems

Will be a plus

• Some experience with real-time, location based systems 
• Experience with Node.JS and ReactJS

Additional details

Work happens at our beautifully-designed downtown Hamburg office where you’ll work in our Product team consisting of engineers, UX designers, QA and product managers. Within the team, backlog groomings, planning meetings, daily standups, demos and retrospectives keep us agile, accountable and reliable. Continuous integration with automated testing allows us to run a weekly release train. Our beta release process gives us useful insight into user behavior and heavy use of top-notch analytics, A/B testing and feature flagging allows for rapid iteration.

With a strong focus on seamless user experiences, we balance building new features, refactoring code, and tweaking existing features based on analytics data.
