About Electricity Maps

This vacancy is provided by Copenhagen Capacity.

Electricity Maps is an API platform providing real-time and predictive electricity signals allowing any device to reduce their cost and emissions by informing them about the best time to consume electricity.

We’re, for example, used by Google to change the time and location of their datacenter energy usage, or by Samsung devices in their SmartThings Energy App (read more about our customer stories here). We recently raised €5M to accelerate our growth and are backed by world-class investors with experience from Unity, Zendesk, Datadog, Hugging Face, DocuSign and more.

The role is based in Copenhagen, one of the most live-able cities in the world.

Position

The Information management team supports the business through development, implementation and regular publication of data and reports. Also, it reports on a broad range of business aspects such as data, process and service quality. In addition, the team also performs a number of ad-hoc data related tasks within the areas of data provision, data related issue resolution and general data governance.

As a data expert/engineer on the Information management team, you will collaborate with power engineers, IT specialists and application developers gathering insights and driving innovation to improve our processes. Your role will involve identifying and consolidating data and support the engineers in turning data and analyses into reports useful at all levels of the organization. The work is highly explorative and dynamic. It is therefore important that you have a proactive, innovative mindset, and are ready to challenge status quo and approach issues in a new way. With a combination of programming, data engineering, visualization and processing skills, you will play a crucial role in shaping our approach to business challenges and in raising awareness about the quality of our data, processes and services.

Your primary tasks and areas of responsibility:

  1. Identify, design, build, and maintain generic, standardised data pipelines for analytics, reporting and ad-hoc testing activities
  2. Identify, develop and drive KPIs and data-driven decision tools, in collaboration with power engineers
  3. Design, develop and improve data visualization in analytics across all Nordic RCC services and departments
  4. Work together with application developers and engineers to develop tools for reporting and report design
  5. Translate user reporting needs into clear and informative tools
  6. Participate in projects and initiatives to professionalize Nordic RCC data usage, improve data quality and drive digitalization
  7. Service the business with response to ad-hoc data requests using and developing generic query tools
  8. Participate in design, development and implementation of a Nordic RCC Data catalogue, data lineage creation and implementation of data governance in general
  9. Liaise with the TSO data and integration resources on data management issues in order to find the optimal solution to business problems
  10. Liaise with the Nordic RCC domain experts such as the Data Architect, the Release and Integration manager, the Infrastructure manager, the Lead Developer etc. to ensure optimal usage of resources and optimal solutions to technical or business issues related to IT system operation

Your qualification

The ideal candidates will most likely have:

  • A master’s degree in data science/management, statistics, mathematics, computer science or related field – or substantial work experience from such fields
  • Experience working as an IT developer, data architect, Business Intelligence expert or similar, preferably in a relevant industry

Additionally, you should have one or several of below qualifications:

  • Data visualization expertise
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Excel macros
  • IT application development skills
  • IT integration management skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive mindset with willingness to challenge status quo and to explore new approaches
  • Strong teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the energy sector and power systems is an advantage, but not a requirement

Additional details

You will report to the team lead of the Information management team, which is part of the Data and Analytics department at the Nordic RCC.

You should expect limited traveling activities to the TSOs in Finland (Helsinki), Norway (Oslo), Sweden (Stockholm) and in Denmark (Fredericia). Travelling activities will not exceed 20 days per year.

An international and flexible working environment

You will join a team of competent, diverse and enthusiastic colleagues. We are currently 22 nationalities with more than 30% women and all ages. Our work language is English. You will also at times work in teams with colleagues from the Nordic TSOs either in virtual teams or in physically.

The Data & Analytics department is a recently established department with expertise in data architecture, reporting, data science and power system engineering. We are now hiring an additional data expert to increase our ability to deliver data insights and quality improvement to our services. It is a small department with a young, enthusiastic, and curious team with an informal work atmosphere where you can be sure to make an impact.

Your daily workplace will be in our newly furnished office premises in Copenhagen Towers, Ørestad. We are offering workplace flexibility to ensure a healthy work-life balance, including the possibility for working from home some of your worktime, however, to support social relation between colleagues and the collaborative nature of our work, physical presence in the office is expected most days.

Our values of fellowship, curiosity, respect, and transparency have been defined by all employees. They identify how we behave and shape the way we work together, and we expect you to see yourself in them.
